Mr. Sean Caonguyen

Sean

Sean Caonguyen is a chemistry (biochemistry option) graduate student at CSULA. His graduate research focuses predominantly on lipid transfer proteins in the developmental and aging process of the flowering plant, Arabidopsis thaliana. Remarkably, bioinformatical software tools can be used to pinpoint areas of interest for further biological experimentation. As a fellow in IMPACT LA, Sean will conduct research in conjunction with his MS thesis and develop related hands-on activities in the area of bioinformatics. His fellow’s research projects at Theodore Roosevelt High School consists of various lessons and activities that introduce and apply math concepts for analytical software tools within bioinformatics as well as plant and evolutionary biology. Dr. Nancy Warter-Perez is his primary research mentor for the program; however, Sean will also be assisted by his graduate research advisor, Dr. Robert Vellanoweth (in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Dept.), and other IMPACT LA faculty and fellows.

Mr. Ankur Bansal

ankur

Ankur is a graduate student in Computer Science at CSULA. Ankur did his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Thapar University, India. His undergraduate study was focused on Automobiles and Machine Design. As a graduate student in CSULA, he is working in the area of Machine Learning and its application in information security with guidance of Dr. Valentino Crespi. As a part of IMPACT-LA program, Ankur will be working with Ms Monica Guerero at Hollenbeck Middle School. He’ll help in development of hands-on activities for Robotics class, to make students curious and motivated to join engineering or science related field as career option.

Mr. Narek Zohrabyan

s

My undergraduate training was in electrical engineering at CSULA and it mainly focused in the area of communication and control systems. As a graduate student I am studying communication systems and doing research in the filed of image/video transmission and processing. Specifically my thesis will be about error concealment and developing techniques that allow for efficient and accurate transmission of information over a wide range of networks. As an adjunct ambassador of CSULA and the filed of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics), I will be working for IMPACT-LA to motivate and inspire the next generation of scientist, engineers, physicist, mathematicians etc… I am humbled to be participating with such a diverse group of people and hopefully my experiences will initiate the internal dialogue within the high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in STEM.
