Application form

Here is the application form. Please check the followings for requirements and responsibilities.

 

Standard Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a graduate student in Computer Science (CS), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) or other majors in Engineering, Science and Math when they start their fellowship. If applicants graduated from other institutes than CSULA, they must have completed at least 16 units of course work on their graduate program when they start their fellowship.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA for the last 90 units of undergraduate course work or 3.3 for the last 16 units of graduate course work
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Desired Requirements

  • Must have an identified research topic and commitment from a  research mentor.
  • Must submit a referencee letter from your research mentor as part of the application.
  • Minorities and women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Must conduct research activities with his/her research advisor for their MS thesis
  • Must be registered in the required Technology Education course (Tech 454L, 4units) for the upcoming spring quarter
  • 1 year full commitment from Early June to Late May  the following year (excluding extra weeks for training and reporting before and after the period)
    • work with a G6-12 STEM teacher(s) and faculty members to integrate hands-on inquiry-based and project-based learning into the curriculum of math/science class
    • a full-day classroom activities (teaching and/or assisting a teacher) once a week
  • Attend Spring orientation workshop
  • Attend Summer workshops (2nd or 3rd week of July)
  • Give a presentation of findings at Spring seminar
  • During the fellowship period, fellows cannot take on internships, part-time jobs, or full-time jobs.

Fellowship compensation (from Early June to Late May the following year)

  • Stipend ($30,000/year)
  • Additional Stipends up to $10,500 for tuition, health insurance, travel for their research, textbooks, and so on
  • A graduate student can be a fellow up to 2 years (typically 1 year). Based upon performance, previous fellows will be considered for a second year.

  • Resume, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, two letters of recommendation
